How I'd choose a builder from this list

Start with where, not who

Most builders in this table only build in a handful of communities. If you have a school district or a commute in mind, filter by city first and let the location shrink the list for you. The best builder in the metro is the wrong builder if they're 40 minutes from where your life happens.

Depth and breadth are different strengths

Volume builders carry dozens of active listings, which usually means faster timelines, more plan options, and sharper pricing. Boutique builders carry a few, which usually means more customization and more of the owner's attention on your slab. Neither is better. They're built for different buyers, and knowing which one you are saves you months.

Walk the actual inventory

I walk these homes every week. A builder's active listings tell you what they're building right now, at what price, in which neighborhoods, and the differences you notice standing in the kitchen rarely show up in the spec sheet. That's more useful than any brochure.
